Positive Affirmations: Touch the Heart - Change the Mind

Posted on July 3, 2020November 11, 2020

“Affirmations are our mental vitamins, providing the supplementary positive thoughts we need to balance the barrage of negative events and thoughts we experience daily.”― Tia Walker, The Inspired Caregiver: Finding Joy While Caring for Those You Love    <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/positive-affirmations-touch-the-heart-change-the-mind/></div>

The success of your recovery depends on maintaining vigilance or awareness. You've worked hard to give up drugs and alcohol; that's the getting into recovery. If we don't work on our recovery every day, we run the risk of becoming complacent, and that's a dangerous place to be. Are you safe-guarding your recovery today with routines? <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/do-i-have-to-work-on-my-recovery-today/></div>

The reality is that change is going to feel painful, unfamiliar, uncomfortable, and uncertain. Too often people focus only on their pain, what they will have to go through to change, without reflecting on the pain that their actions have caused loved ones and friends. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-who-youll-be-tomorrow-depends-on-changes-today/></div>

We're all rather like the nesting dolls; we're layered and complex. But if we look within, we will find all the qualities and answers necessary to overcome adversity, problems, and difficulties. We just have to keep looking for them. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-your-answers-are-within/></div>

17 Spiritual Principles That Changed My Life marilyn l davis from addict 2 advocate

Posted on January 13, 2020February 13, 2021

In one of my first lectures in treatment, I kept hearing about the spiritual principles that I needed to incorporate into my recovery.  For the principles listing on the sign-up sheet, I falsely assumed that I'd go to a dimly lit room, with incense wafting and cloistered monks reading from musty, dusty tomes.  I hoped that they would enlighten me and give me ancient wisdom on how to change. Instead, I learned from recovering people like myself in recovery support meetings. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/17-spiritual-principles-that-changed-my-life/></div>

It's like she was a jar with the lid screwed on too tight, and inside the jar were pickles, angry pickles, and they were fermenting, and about to explode.”<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/im-stressed-in-my-recovery-what-do-i-do/></div>

Affirmations have to resonate, vibrate, or echo your desire. If not, there is a block created, as it is unbelievable. For instance, I could create one stating: I am perfect, just as I am now! Even as I write it, I know it is untrue, therefore, no matter how many times I wrote it, I would not internalize this as a valid affirmation. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/affirmations-help-us-heal-in-our-recovery/></div>

“I think that the best kind of change, is the change that comes from the inside and begins its way out until it emerges on the outside; a change that is born underneath then continues and spreads until it has reached the surface. That's a true change. A powerful change. And I have found that while we are emerging, changing into something glorious; it is actually us becoming who we really are.― C. I could not dissipate those feelings and was alone in my armor with them. It was an insidious trap. However, most of us who are semi-delusional from our use, do not understand that while we think we're protecting ourselves, we are also preventing ourselves from receiving help. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-vulnerable-without-our-armor/></div>

I know it's hard to accept responsibility for our life choices. I spent years blaming my parents, bosses, husbands, lovers, and even my children for whatever was wrong. And when we're not blaming, we're trying to get everyone to focus only on our positive aspects.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/when-blaming-others-stops-working/></div>

The concept of altering or modifying something is just another blessing of recovery. It's the freedom of choice, something that was lacking in our addiction. This ability to choose allows us to change our old behaviors, attitudes, and actions and begin the process of inner healing through recovery.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-is-altering-from-within/></div>

Finding North: A Journey from Addict to Advocate
