Positive Affirmations: Touch the Heart - Change the Mind

Posted on July 3, 2020November 11, 2020

“Affirmations are our mental vitamins, providing the supplementary positive thoughts we need to balance the barrage of negative events and thoughts we experience daily.”― Tia Walker, The Inspired Caregiver: Finding Joy While Caring for Those You Love    <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/positive-affirmations-touch-the-heart-change-the-mind/></div>

The reality is that change is going to feel painful, unfamiliar, uncomfortable, and uncertain. Too often people focus only on their pain, what they will have to go through to change, without reflecting on the pain that their actions have caused loved ones and friends. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-who-youll-be-tomorrow-depends-on-changes-today/></div>

It is when we cannot see that changes are going to make our life better or that we will feel better because of the modification, we often balk, resist, or create obstacles to change. We give into fears, discuss how difficult it is to change, and create excuses so we don't have to change.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/stop-balking-at-the-changes/></div>

Affirmations have to resonate, vibrate, or echo your desire. If not, there is a block created, as it is unbelievable. For instance, I could create one stating: I am perfect, just as I am now! Even as I write it, I know it is untrue, therefore, no matter how many times I wrote it, I would not internalize this as a valid affirmation. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/affirmations-help-us-heal-in-our-recovery/></div>

For many of us, admitting that there is a substance abuse problem or addiction creates fear, shame, and embarrassment. As a result, the only way we can come to terms with it is to avoid it. Avoiding the truth of the problem relies on denying that there is a problem, rationalizing or justifying. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/15-ways-we-try-to-avoid-our-addiction/></div>

If you think about this logically, anyone that “falls in love” with you early in your recovery is getting involved with a person that you are trying to change. Therefore, you would have to stay the same to sustain the relationship, and that would be the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish in yo<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/if-they-love-you-now-why-change/></div>

In our addiction, we keep having the same experiences, over, and over, and over, like an endless loop. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-thank-goodness-i-have-another-chance/></div>

In meetings, we'll hear people talk about Stinking Thinking and know they're talking about the faulty logic or the negative thoughts. But what are some types of thinking that get us in trouble, cause us to view the world through a distorted lens, or just don't make sense when we analyze them? <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/stinkin-thinkin-and-the-negative-results/></div>

Some family and friends never extend the same amount of trust because they simply will not put themselves in a vulnerable position again. The pain our addiction caused them is too much to forget so quickly. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/why-dont-you-trust-me-i-didnt-use/></div>

The concept of altering or modifying something is just another blessing of recovery. It's the freedom of choice, something that was lacking in our addiction. This ability to choose allows us to change our old behaviors, attitudes, and actions and begin the process of inner healing through recovery.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-is-altering-from-within/></div>
