I knew that to get my self-esteem back on an even keel, I would have to view qualities within and not focus on what was lacking on the outside. How did I do this? <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/you-can-not-buy-self-esteem/></div>

“Could we change our attitude, we should not only see life differently, but life itself would come to be different. Life would undergo a change of appearance because we ourselves had undergone a change of attitude.” ― Katherine Mansfield<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-an-adventure-or-ordeal-its-all-in-the-attitude/></div>

The reality is that change is going to feel painful, unfamiliar, uncomfortable, and uncertain. Too often people focus only on their pain, what they will have to go through to change, without reflecting on the pain that their actions have caused loved ones and friends. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-who-youll-be-tomorrow-depends-on-changes-today/></div>

Another benefit from passing on good recovery advice is that you free up space in your brain to learn the lessons you need at this time, plus you get to feel useful, helpful, and caring - and those are generally not the qualities we had in our addiction. So, today, where can you pass it on? Look for opportunities to share and care.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/got-some-good-recovery-advice-then-pass-it-on/></div>

While those are only five ways to keep an addiction dormant, the most important one for me, is don't pick up the substance that made the addiction burst into bloom in the first place. I'd like you to add to the fives ways to keep an addiction dormant. Just leave a comment, thanks. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/addiction-dormant-or-bursting-into-full-bloom/></div>

We had a new member in our group tonight. Most of the women have over six months in recovery and facilitating this group, I've gotten to know them.  I never expect the newest to speak first, but always acknowledge them and let them know that they may either speak first or let us know when they are ready to introduce themselves; but to always feel free to contribute to the conversation at any time.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-when-you-contribute-we-all-learn/></div>

Addiction forces us to wear a false image. We smile, when every fiber of our being is screaming in pain. We posture as friendly, when all we want to do is get our dope and leave. We pretend that we have it all together when we take our children to school or football. We show fake emotions because we are so embarrassed and frightened by our authentic ones. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-is-removing-the-masks/></div>

Oops! There Goes Another Opportunity marilyn l davis from addict 2 advocate

So, if there's all these doors to success, why do we miss so many opportunities? Missed Opportunities are the times we fail to capitalize on the activity, occasion, situation or circumstances that would better our lives or ourselves. Each of us has missed opportunities or not taken advantage of an opportunity often due to self-defeating behaviors, including our fears.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/oops-there-goes-another-opportunity/></div>

Affirmations have to resonate, vibrate, or echo your desire. If not, there is a block created, as it is unbelievable. For instance, I could create one stating: I am perfect, just as I am now! Even as I write it, I know it is untrue, therefore, no matter how many times I wrote it, I would not internalize this as a valid affirmation. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/affirmations-help-us-heal-in-our-recovery/></div>

“I think that the best kind of change, is the change that comes from the inside and begins its way out until it emerges on the outside; a change that is born underneath then continues and spreads until it has reached the surface. That's a true change. A powerful change. And I have found that while we are emerging, changing into something glorious; it is actually us becoming who we really are.― C. If you think about this logically, anyone that “falls in love” with you early in your recovery is getting involved with a person that you are trying to change. Therefore, you would have to stay the same to sustain the relationship, and that would be the exact opposite of what you are trying to accomplish in yo<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/if-they-love-you-now-why-change/></div>

One aspect of joining these groups and attending meetings is that if the orientation, value, and support are what you need to shore up your foundation in recovery, most have a free course or instructional format for starting a meeting in your area.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/meeting-options-to-improve-long-term-recovery/></div>
