Recovery is more than 'not using.' What changes did you have to make even after your stopped using? How did you overcome your ambivalence? How can you encourage someone today?<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-its-more-than-not-using/></div>

Changes Give Us Hope for a Better Future marilyn l davis from addict 2 advocate

For many addicts and alcoholics coming to terms with the puzzle of addiction – knowing they need to change and doing the complete opposite is frustrating and scary. However, the good news is that the barriers and objections are within you and that means you have the ability to change them. It's just a matter of isolating them, examining them and then changing what doesn't work or fit anymore.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/changes-give-us-hope-for-a-better-future/></div>

If you find yourself in the cycle of only identifying the problem and complaining about it or commenting on it, ask yourself if you truly have both the desire to change something and are willing to make the effort to change the problem. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/how-to-accomplish-changes-in-your-recovery/></div>

Addiction forces us to wear a false image. We smile, when every fiber of our being is screaming in pain. We posture as friendly, when all we want to do is get our dope and leave. We pretend that we have it all together when we take our children to school or football. We show fake emotions because we are so embarrassed and frightened by our authentic ones. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-is-removing-the-masks/></div>

Stop Balking at the Changes marilyn l davis from addict 2 advocate

It is when we cannot see that changes are going to make our life better or that we will feel better because of the modification, we often balk, resist, or create obstacles to change. We give into fears, discuss how difficult it is to change, and create excuses so we don't have to change.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/stop-balking-at-the-changes/></div>

Did I realize that I'd taken up arms against my children when I started using? No, I did not set out to harm them; however, that was the result.  And just as the history books record the injustices done, each of my children recollects the harm from her perspective. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/casualties-of-addiction-our-children/></div>

Too many of us emphatically say that change is scary, hard, impossible, or out of reach, and we get stubborn, discouraged and stuck. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/getting-unstuck-in-early-recovery/></div>

Ben Rose reminds us of the beginning of recovery support meetings. That was face-time; today it's screen-time. Both are supportive for our recovery. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/face-time-and-screen-time-both-support-our-recovery/></div>

The psychiatrist and Course in Miracles teacher Jerry Jampolsky in Goodbye to Guilt calls forgiveness “the ultimate challenge” (p. 149). We cling to hurts, slights, insults, betrayals, wrongs, anger, resentments, annoyances—and on and on, through months, years, decades, and, before we blink, a lifetime. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/six-principles-for-forgiving/></div>
