Being desperate can make us do crazy things, but it can also motivate us to change.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/desperate-thats-motivation-for-change/></div>

We judge ourselves harshly remembering all the bad choices we made in our addiction and then get trapped in our thinking and don't make a decision because we're afraid we'll make another bad choice.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/are-you-thinking-too-much-in-your-recovery/></div>

Recovery is more than 'not using.' What changes did you have to make even after your stopped using? How did you overcome your ambivalence? How can you encourage someone today?<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-its-more-than-not-using/></div>

I do not take lightly when the Universe demonstrates a lesson for me, and at that moment, I saw how tenacious that tulip sprout was. That longing, if you will, to grow, to fight for survival and thrive. To blossom and show itself in all its splendor and beauty.  <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-you-just-need-the-tenacity-of-a-tulip/></div>

17 Spiritual Principles That Changed My Life marilyn l davis from addict 2 advocate

Posted on January 13, 2020February 13, 2021

In one of my first lectures in treatment, I kept hearing about the spiritual principles that I needed to incorporate into my recovery.  For the principles listing on the sign-up sheet, I falsely assumed that I'd go to a dimly lit room, with incense wafting and cloistered monks reading from musty, dusty tomes.  I hoped that they would enlighten me and give me ancient wisdom on how to change. Instead, I learned from recovering people like myself in recovery support meetings. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/17-spiritual-principles-that-changed-my-life/></div>

If you find yourself in the cycle of only identifying the problem and complaining about it or commenting on it, ask yourself if you truly have both the desire to change something and are willing to make the effort to change the problem. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/how-to-accomplish-changes-in-your-recovery/></div>

Affirmations have to resonate, vibrate, or echo your desire. If not, there is a block created, as it is unbelievable. For instance, I could create one stating: I am perfect, just as I am now! Even as I write it, I know it is untrue, therefore, no matter how many times I wrote it, I would not internalize this as a valid affirmation. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/affirmations-help-us-heal-in-our-recovery/></div>

I could not dissipate those feelings and was alone in my armor with them. It was an insidious trap. However, most of us who are semi-delusional from our use, do not understand that while we think we're protecting ourselves, we are also preventing ourselves from receiving help. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-vulnerable-without-our-armor/></div>

When we are new in recovery, it's imperative that we find people who respect and can work with our differences. Whether this is a sponsor, accountability partner, or therapist doesn't matter. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/recovery-common-but-different/></div>
