While we'll get multiple reasons from people we ask, the usual excuses for returning to active addiction seems to fit into the following five excuses.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/why-do-some-people-return-to-active-addiction/></div>

One aspect of joining these groups and attending meetings is that if the orientation, value, and support are what you need to shore up your foundation in recovery, most have a free course or instructional format for starting a meeting in your area.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/meeting-options-to-improve-long-term-recovery/></div>

How convenient and dishonest to say that all the harmful things I did to people were in my use. Then I could blame my behaviors, attitudes and actions on a substance, not the shadow aspects of myself or my character defects. Although my use distorted my thinking, behaviors, and attitudes, it was the shadow aspects or myself and my character defects that fueled my actions as much as my use.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/addiction-is-distorting-recovery-is-transforming/></div>

We have all manipulated people.  But most of us have a preferred method of manipulation.  When you learn to spot yours, then you can decide if your manipulation comes at too great a cost and change the behaviors.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/what-does-your-manipulation-cost-you/></div>

Ben Rose reminds us of the beginning of recovery support meetings. That was face-time; today it's screen-time. Both are supportive for our recovery. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/face-time-and-screen-time-both-support-our-recovery/></div>

Treating David's addiction as a primary diagnosis was not the way forward for him. Stopping the use was relatively easy compared to finding the underlying issue on why he did what he did.<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/thursday-truths-david-g/></div>

The process of recovery consists of making significant adjustments in our lives.  Upon entering the process, we come with plenty of baggage that has weighed us down for years. This baggage has dictated how we move about in this world, and since it's been so heavy, it's restricted us from entering places in the world that many of us have yearned to be a part of. <div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" data-url=https://fromaddict2advocate.com/replacing-old-routines-with-the-new-people-places-and-things/></div>
