Monthly Contributors: Why Collaboration Works at From Addict 2 Advocate
“I have always believed in the power of collaboration. Early on in my professional career, I realized that you can’t develop all the competencies you need fast enough on your own. Furthermore, if you don’t collaborate, your ideas will be limited to your own abilities. As a result, you will not be able to serve your clientele and thus can’t achieve the anticipated impact.” ―
How we discuss recovery is different for each of us. Yes, we have slogans and phrases that we all use. Still, to write about addiction and recovery and touch as many people as possible, we need writers who offer unique, varied and sound recovery advice. These writers do precisely that and I’m thrilled that they are both monthly contributors.
This collaboration means that more people will have an opportunity to read about addiction and recovery from our respective perspectives, experiences, and solutions.
Bio: Craig W. Stratton MS, ASCAS
Craig is an Adjunct Professor at Hudson Valley Community College. He brings his personal experience of 22 years in recovery and his education to his students, ensuring that the next generation of substance abuse counselors understand the knowledge of addiction, but more importantly, know a representative of the addicted population.
Bringing this human element to his classes, he advocates for recovery and, through his teaching and actions, will help remove the stigmas and myths associated with faceless addicts.
Combining his passions with a purpose is one of his goals. He has worked to help marginalized populations understand their addictions and introduce them to the benefits of recovery as a Case Manager for the homeless and those in the Drug Treatment Court.
He has also counseled adolescents, adults, and couples over the last 14 years in various agencies and worked extensively on Alternatives to Incarceration to incorporate treatment and not incarceration for nonviolent offenders.

Bio: Ben Rose
Ben is an Oregon native who currently resides on The Florida Gulf. He has traveled extensively by bus, car, freight train, Amtrak, and foot to see America and find stories to write.
He was born at the end of the turbulent sixties, and much of that is reflected in his writing. In addition, his travels started in his formative years. Early in life, he developed a love of cheap motels, greasy spoons, and great comedians.
He speaks fluent hipster as well as English and a smattering of French. He is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community, a supporter of human rights, and a believer in racial and gender equality. As one with Asperger’s, GAD, and PTSD, he has seen his share of hard traveling, abuse, and bullying, also reflected in his literary works.
He currently resides with his beautiful, better half and their emotional support cat.
